No? bash:

dak@lola:/usr/local/tmp/lilypond$ zippo()

dak@lola:/usr/local/tmp/lilypond$ /bin/dash
$ zippo()

$ 

dak@lola:/usr/local/tmp/lilypond$ /bin/ash
$ zippo()
> {

> echo $XXX

Seems to work just fine with a set of typical shells.
