A proposal from what I've been involved lately: inotify support to eliminate lstat and readdir syscalls. The scope may be small. But we could aim to get it merged in master or at least next by the end of GSoC. Or extend to another platform besides Linux, it helps ensure we have good abstraction. My free time goes up and down unexpectedly, not sure if I can commit to be a mentor.
