Nice write-up.

Care to save this somewhere more permanent (e.g. git.wiki.k.org or
Documentation/), after rewording the above to make it more clear
that the "limitations" you mention does not have anything to do with
Git, but is a fundamental flaw in thinking that it is somehow useful
to track that "file A was renamed to file B"?
