Using HEAD:doc/en_US should be equivalent to running `tar cf - .` from inside the doc/en_US, as what you're passing is that tree. Using HEAD -- doc/en_US however means that you want to pack HEAD, but limit it to files that match doc/en_US, so it's working as designed. If you mean that 'HEAD -- doc/en_US' shouldn't give you a tar with those files at the root, then we agree. cmn
