Memory-only caching is kind of nasty. Memory is a premium resource on kernel.org.

hmmm. Well, I have been wondering why nobody ever came up with a system-wide local (==disk) cache for remote and/or calculated objects. Maybe its time to do something about that.

I've been in a daemon-writing mood lately.
