Gimp 2.9 (Git pull from February 16, 2015) 64-bit Experimental - from Partha's place Windows 8.1 64-bit Sometimes GIMP does not start. No error messages or anything. Just, nothing happens. Looking at the Application event log - the following is reported: Faulting application name: gimp.exe, version: 2.9.1.0, time stamp: 0x00000000 Faulting module name: libglib-2.0-0.dll, version: 2.43.3.0, time stamp: 0x00010000 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x000000000002c640 Faulting process ID: 0x18c4 Faulting application start time: 0x01d05c343983f35d Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Gimp-2.9\bin\gimp.exe Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\Gimp-2.9\frameworks\libglib-2.0-0.dll Report ID: 77ae7ca1-c827-11e4-bef1-00248c02c055 Faulting package full name: Event ID: 1000 Task Category: (100) Once this happens, it is usually not possible to start GIMP. Repeated attempts produce the same symptom. Work-around is to start GIMP 2.8 and close it down again. GIMP 2.9 will then usually start OK. This is somewhat compounded because GIMP 2.9 is usually very slow to start (at least the first time it is run). After double-clicking the icon, the cursor quickly goes back to normal (i.e. not showing "busy" cursor), but nothing happens for some time before, eventually, the splash screen shows. Therefore, not possible to tell whether it has crashed or is just being "normally" slow. This tends to lead to starting multiple instances! (2.8 has the same problem, but not so badly) I think the splash screen needs to show IMMEDIATELY just to reassure the user that something is happening.
