Gimp cannot open a D800 NEF image (36 MP) (fuzzy static), partially opens a D610 image (24 MP). It is able to open a D7000 (16.7MP), D300, D50 NEF images fine. When the D800 image is converted to TIFF with dcraw, the TIFF of course opens fine.
