We are in the middle of switching to a new, more powerful image processing core called GEGL (www.gegl.org). So all the more significant tasks are related to that. We also have a second big task: porting all UI from GTK+2 to GTK+3. And then there's making it possible to apply masks to layer groups which we had to postpone in v2.8 development cycle. Of course, you could just come up with something else.
