I didn't read the huge paragraph I snipped, but I think you completely misunderstood the reply to the bug. The bug is that ctrl-e doesn't work in 2.8.0 when you import a file until you do 'export'. This is fixed in 2.8.1, you can now always press ctrl-e to export a file.
