i believe there is another thing that may correct in how Gimp save PNG and its about transparency

When a PNG created with gimp is converted in JPG or any other format that do not support trnsparency transparent area become black, while they should be white

that happens if the conversion is done with gimp OR any other SW .

Not sure if changing the default option in PNG saving may correct if so i fail to find correct setting (and if so i believe will be better change the default setting )

Only way to change this i found is after saving the png,remove alpha and then  use "save a copy as" jpg  then transparency is rendered as supposed , not black but white.

Obviously reopen the png, remove the alpha channel and only then save as jpg works too
