Yes.
I have filed such a bug some years ago.  
Never fixed that I remember.
Onthe same day I flied the same bug against  gedit - they did implement the 
fix some 18 months later or so. 

But as for kde editors, the only way to go is to delete the backup files by 
hand. :-(
