That's pretty much all I use the delay for. Very, very occasionally I'll want to screenshot something that takes me a few seconds to set up, but mainly it's to take something on a different desktop. Generally these are large windows. I think that most of my screenshots are web pages, closely followed by bug reports (usually in Gaim). For both of these I much prefer not having the capturing window on the desktop, and with webpages I want as much of the app visible as possible.
