From: Lourens Veen <lourens@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Tue, 27 Nov 2001 08:12:27 +0100 Last thingy, about professional use of Gimp, isn't this a bit of a chicken-and-egg thing? I can't imagine anyone using a program that doesn't do CMYK, serious halftoning and easy font work (with the added note that my X server crashes regularly on TrueType fonts rendered larger than 100 px or so) for professional print graphics. Having worked together with those professionals quite a bit lately I think Gimp needs to be quite a bit better still. I can imagine professional use of a program without any of these things these days (the font stuff is most likely to be an issue). A lot of printers that get professional use have Mac/Windows drivers that take exclusively RGB data. A more serious issue is the lack of color matching, so that there's no guarantee that what shows on the screen will match what's on the page. -- Robert Krawitz <rlk@xxxxxxxxxxxx> http://www.tiac.net/users/rlk/ Tall Clubs International -- http://www.tall.org/ or 1-888-IM-TALL-2 Member of the League for Programming Freedom -- mail lpf@xxxxxxxxxxxx Project lead for Gimp Print/stp -- http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net "Linux doesn't dictate how I work, I dictate how Linux works." --Eric Crampton
