The perl5.004 + PDL config does not work reliable, with not much hope to
get it fixed. You have to either upgrade perl or downgrade PDL to version
2.000, which works fine with 5.004.

Given that 5.004 is now two versions behind, with perl5.6 now being
current, I suggest upgrading perl to _something_ newer. Especially since PDL
suffers from subtle errors in this version as well :(
