I'd recommend first entering modules and the plug-ins, on make
install. But makefiles aren't my hobby...

No, it isn't. Setting GIMP_PERL_MODULE_INC is the (undocumented) way to
force a module built.
I was just afraid the module built without being forced, which would be
bad as it breaks with all release versions of perl on many systems ;)
