GIMP is an acronym and the article was never supposed to be part of the name. We prefer "GIMP" over "The GIMP" for quite a while already. For GIMP 2.4 we have completely dropped the article whereever possible. I would very much appreciate if the user manual would adopt this change and also used 'GIMP' instead of 'The GIMP'. Please do also make sure that the name is used in all capital letters. It's 'GIMP', not 'Gimp' or 'gimp'.
