We should probably review this file a bit since I am not sure how uptodate it is. AFAIK what's missing at the moment before GEGL becomes usable is to implement a storage model. Most of the other code should be in place. I also suggest you check out the babl module from CVS since we plan to use babl for color conversion in gegl.
