I need a hard register for a define_insn output.

I have had issues before when using clobber in a define_insn pattern;
I will give it another try.

Is there an example I can be pointed to where a temporary hard
register is obtained via secondary reload ?
Many ports have them various forms of secondary reloads and scratch registers for reload.

Search for "secondary_reload", "reload_in", "reload_out" in the various target directories for many examples.
