I understand that some people might be too shy (or not wish to raise false expectations) to write even a private message. Expressing interest is not a promise of commitment. If you start something and you cannot finish it, well, that's life. At least you tried. I would encourage you to write to the mailing list (gcc@) or use IRC (https://gcc.gnu.org/wiki/GCConIRC), but I don't mind if you write me a private message (although I may take a few days to reply).
