There is some disagreement between the compiler and the assembler as to which instructions are supported. As far as I can see, the power6 should support the fsqrt instruction. So either the assembler disagrees, or gcc is not correctly telling the assembler that it is assembling power6 code. You may need to get a newer assembler. Ian
