I have now built on another host (thanks, Martin!), and with my own toolchain, and static linking succeeds, dynamic linking fails. I suppose the only conclusion to draw from this is that there are problems with my dynamic libraries. I don't know which libraries are relevant here, but I'd guess at least libc and libstdc++.
