compiling gcc under windows/cygwin

Hello,

I'm trying to compile gcc-4.1.1 under cygwin,
GNU bash, version 3.1.17

but I immediately get an error trying to run configure.

: command not foundure: line 2:
: command not foundure: line 9:
: command not foundure: line 41:
: command not foundure: line 75:
: command not foundure: line 82:
'./gcc-4.1.1/configure: line 85: syntax error near unexpected token 'do
'./gcc-4.1.1/configure: line 85: 'do

I have looked into the configure file and both line 2 and line 9 are empty lines, if I remove them, I don't get an error there anymore, but I really don't want to hand edit files like this, especially so early in the process. Does anybody know a better way ? or is it a bug and I'm the first one to discover it (not likely)

thanks,
