gcc multithreading on irix

Hi,
 
When compiling boost threads on IRIX with gcc 3.4.3, a boost header file (boost/config/requires_threads.hpp) stops the compilation with a message stating that mutithreading is not supported by gcc on IRIX. However according to the boost header file comments the check is only valid up to gcc 3.3 Does gcc version 3.4.3 support multithreading on IRIX?
