Thanks If you are in that position there is absolutely no reason why you need to build the compiler yourself, and in fact doing so would just be a large ordeal with no tangible outcome. All linux distros have prebuilt gcc packages packages that you can install, Apple has Xcode, and on Windows you can use Cygwin or Mingw.
