Hi. I fixed the install problem(s), and am in process of testing. Solution involved a local install of binutils 2.16.1, --with-ld=<new ld path>, etc. gmp and mpfr were also useful. Making certain spurious environment variables e.g. CXXFLAGS were not set seemed felicitous. Thanks!
