Internal (bit) representation of float and double.

Hi,

If I code:

float a = 1.0;
double b = 1.9;

is there a way I can view the bit structure of a and b ?

Does anyone have a link to an explanation of the way bits are assigned 
to floats and doubles (with gcc) ?
