relocating gcc

I have gcc compiled with '--prefix=/opt/gnu' If I wanted to relocate gcc to
say /usr/opt/gnu can it be done and if so where to make the changes?

I've seen several docs but none seem to agree on what to do...my gcc version
is 3.4.2
