As I understand it, GCC bakes in the semi-hard-coded location of the support tools right into the executable when it is compiled. (I say "semi-hard-coded" because the location is specified in the configure step.)
Both GCC 2.95 and GCC 3.3.
I would expect both GCC versions to exhibit similar behavior, i.e., failure to find their support applications.
