Andres, RedHat didn't screw up the install. Rather, the -V option is deprecated and is not supported in recent versions of GCC. If you are trying to link code built with the new compiler with libraries built with the old compiler, you're not going to have any luck. Newer versions of GCC are not compatible with binaries produced with versions of GCC prior to GCC 3.2.
