I seem to remember that there was an older version that could bootstrap itself. Really don't know what to say. The easiest answer - if you don't have admin privileges, ask your sysadmin to install the latest GCC binary package... If you find an older version that still uses the Solaris packagin system, you'd still be stuck, wouldn't you ? .fwyzard.
