Summary: How do I add an IRC account?

Initial Comment:
Apparently I put this in the wrong tracker:

I tried going to add account and typing in the screen name I want, and putting in irc.freenode.net as my server, but every time I click save, even if I try changing the sn, I get an error that says

"<screen name>@irc.freenode.net disconnected

Couldn't connect to host"

I was wondering if I was missing a step or doing something else wrong.
