>Summary: Solaris build: \"gcc: unrecognized option `-KPIC\'\"

Initial Comment:
Hi,

I'm trying to build 0.77 for non-root user on a Solaris
9 Sparc system. I have already tried to use precompiled
binaries but they fail to work when installed on a user
account.

Version of GCC is 3.3 and the build script uses the
Solaris built-in 'ld'.

The build process halts after failing to compile
several files. The first of these files is 'Account.c'.
After this file, gcc goes on complaining about these:

...
gcc: unrecognized option `-KPIC'
gcc: language depend not recognized
...

What is the proper way to make this build work ? I do
not have root privileges and my disk quota is not very
large so I cannot install my own versions of GCC, Perl,
make...

Thanks in advance !!

This bug is fixed in the most recent version of Gaim. If you are
not using the lastest version, please upgrade. If you are using
the latest version, please indicate so and reopen this bug.

This is (most likely) because perl was built with the Sun C
compiler, but you are compiling gaim with gcc. The simplest
fix is to configure with --disable-perl.
