Category: win32 Group: None Status: Open Priority: 5 Submitted By: watchreader (watchreader) Assigned to: Mark Doliner (thekingant) Summary: Japanese Character Support Initial Comment: Hey everybody! I've noticed some very strange behavior with gaim when talking to my friends on AIM. It seems that if I'm talking to my other friends on Gaim in Japanese, they can read the characters fine. However, when I talk to someone using a windows AIM client, the Japanese appears as gibberish. This is odd, because I can talk to these same people using normal AIM using the same font (MS Mincho) and it appears normal to them. What's also odd is that if I talk to someone who is using an Apple AIM client, than the Japanese characters appear correct again. Is this a bug or is this a settings problem or what? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Rolf (leggewie) Date: 2006-09-05 10:40 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1159152 If your friend sees only boxes that is a clear indication of a faulty or let's say incomplete configuration of fonts on your friend's part. This certainly is no bug in gaim. And as I indicated earlier I suspect the other problems you are experiencing to stem from problems on the receiving end as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: watchreader (watchreader) Date: 2006-09-05 04:30 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1581836 After investigating further, I've gotten some very unpredictable behavior. I've found at least one instance where someone using AIM client version 5.9.3861 see's only boxes, but receives normal Japanese text when looking through a web browser (via UTF-8). I've found other people who use a lower version of AIM can see the text perfectly (including myself). Since the client is from the same source, I assume it's the same encoding. Very strange. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Rolf (leggewie) Date: 2006-09-01 10:44 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1159152 Could be a bug on the receiving end. Anybody know what these clients expect as encoding? Could be that they expect some Windows-specific encoding. What client software is that? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=200235&aid=1545019&group_id=235 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using Tomcat but need to do more?
