Initial Comment:I'm surprised I didn't find this already posted.
In most proprietary messaging clients, you're able to use alt-key codes, for example: Alt+0233 (on the number pad) will give you "é" (accented e). Since the alt-key in GAIM will take you to a conversation tab when used in conjunction with a numeric value, is there a way one can "escape" this behavior? Is there another way to insert these codes without copying and pasting from a separate source? Thanks.

What you are seeing is not a function of the clientsthemselves, but of the toolkit they use: the native windowswidget set.
Gaim is not written using native win32 widgets, but ratherusing gtk2 widgets. In win32, alt+decimal yeilds a latin1character. in gtk2, control+shift+hex yeilds a UTF8character. Since all latin1 characters are in UTF8 (thoughoften with different codes), there is no need nor desire forimplementing a latin1 insert.
take a look at fileformat.info's section on unicode for thehex codes for various characters.

if this isn't possible, can some sort of international character selection box (like the smiley selection box) be created?
