Category: win32 Group: None >Status: Closed Priority: 9 Submitted By: Jason (anubis640) Assigned to: Daniel Atallah (datallah) Summary: Gaim won't load Initial Comment: When I try to run gaim, nothing happens--the program doesn't load. If I then try to run gaim again, it gives me an error saying "an instance of gaim is already running". If I look at the processes in Windows Task Manager, it shows up. It does not show up under application, though. I've tried restarting, reinstalling, and wishing... The most peculiar thing is that this is happening on both my laptop and desktop. Is there a chance that a plugin I am using is doing this? However after the reinstall gaim didn't work at all still, so that means the plugin would not have been removed during the uninstall--not sure if that's likely or not. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Daniel Atallah (datallah) Date: 2005-11-04 07:58 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=325843 WinAVR is runs on cygwin. I don't think it really needs to be in the PATH, your best bet might be to remove it from the PATH. You can also delete/rename c:\program files\gaim\plugins\tcl.dll to prevent gaim's Tcl plugin loader from being loaded, but that is a gaim-specific solution whereas having cygwin in your PATH is a generally bad idea for lots of programs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Jason (anubis640) Date: 2005-11-03 23:02 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1372890 You were right the first time... Gaim was failing to load tcl84.dll according to the debugger. I found this file in the bin director of WinAVR--a suite of programs used for programming microcontrollers. So I renamed the offending file and gaim ran just fine. I'm not sure how this will affect WinAVR (It did load successfully after I renamed the file).... is there a better way to fix this problem? WinAVR\bin was listed in my PATH. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Daniel Atallah (datallah) Date: 2005-11-03 22:30 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=325843 To look at your PATH you can start a cmd prompt and type `echo %PATH%`. Try running gaim from the cmd prompt: `cd "c:\Program Files\Gaim"` `gaim -d` This should cause some debug output to be shown. What are the last few lines? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Jason (anubis640) Date: 2005-11-03 21:00 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1372890 I don't beleive I have cygwin installed, unless it was installed as part of another program and I didn't know it. I am not sure how to check the PATH to see if a bin directory is there. Where is PATH? Also, I searched for tcl84.dll on my computer and it was not found. Gaim ran fine for about a month before this started happening. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Daniel Atallah (datallah) Date: 2005-11-03 17:17 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=325843 You have cygwin in the path, you should remove it.
