Summary: gaim under AIX 5.2 no protocols listed

Initial Comment:
gaim 1.5 compiles/links with no problems under AIX 5.2
with vac and gcc. When you start gaim, it shows my
userid for AIM and ICQ with (unknown) next to it. The
account editor pulldown for protocols is empty.

All protocols compile and link, and are installed in
the /usr/local/lib/gaim directory. They are all
loadable, and a
gaim -d shows that the plugins are all 'probed' with no
errors listed. I have tried static and dynamic
linking. gaim 1.1.3 did the same thing. Anything I
can do to help find out what the problem is? Been
stuck on 059 for too long.

I will make some attempts at providing patches. I will even
go so far as to provide an AIX platform for a developer if
that is desired. Feel free to contact me, I am happy to get
AIX on the list of supported platforms!

that was really just a guess attempt, apparently gaim's
ability to load plugins is limited or non-existant under
AIX, perhaps a solvable problem, perhaps not. Its hard to
say since no developer has access to an AIX system.

Right now our support for compiling statically is nearly
non-existant, while you can do so for the protocol plugins
themselves, the other plugins do not have this option,
something that creates problems for MSN and (sometimes)
jabber, where the ssl support comes in the form of a plugin.
 Patches are welcome.

more ideal though, would be to figure out why the loader
isn't playing nice.

I went back and started over with xlc after seeing your
comment here, and indeed --with-static-prpls=oscar cures the
problem, after getting over some compilation hurdles! thank
you.

I assume that I also have to compile all the plugins as
static as well?

abandoning the idea of compiling them as plugins for now
(which won't work for msn or jabber, but lets focus on
AIM/ICQ for now), when you attempted to compile them in
statically, you used something along the lines of
./configure --with-static-prpls=oscar
correct? the --with-static-prpls option needs to be given a
list of what protocols to compile in statically, otherwise
it doesn't really change anything.
