Category: None Group: None >Status: Closed Priority: 5 Submitted By: Evan Barter (evandb) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Compiling libs seperately? Initial Comment: Pretty simple question. I've got a patch applied to oscar.c and I was wondering (compiling and make not being my strength) if there was an easy way of just recompiling liboscar.so, rather than having to compile Gaim and messing around with my currently installed binary package and what not? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2005-10-24 09:28 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 not unless you are very short of disk space. man strip if you are. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Evan Barter (evandb) Date: 2005-10-24 09:17 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1166467 So it's not an issue I need to be concerned about? Thanks for your help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2005-10-24 09:15 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 The old one was stripped, which is a standard step when a distro builds gaim, but not standard to gaim's build process itself. the new one is thus not stripped and has full debugging symbols. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Evan Barter (evandb) Date: 2005-10-24 08:49 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1166467 Beg your pardon, I'm an idiot and was checking the wrong path. New libs went in to /usr/local/lib/gaim, so my bad. The only other follow up I've got is the size of the .so. The new one is 3.1Mb, while the existing one is 256Kb. What's up here? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Evan Barter (evandb) Date: 2005-10-24 08:39 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1166467 Doing this results in the following, and no .so: evan@ubuntu:~/gaim-1.5.0/src/protocols/oscar$ make make: Nothing to be done for `all'. evan@ubuntu:~/gaim-1.5.0/src/protocols/oscar$ sudo make install make[1]: Entering directory `/home/evan/gaim-1.5.0/src/protocols/oscar' make[1]: Nothing to be done for `install-exec-am'. test -z "/usr/local/lib/gaim" || mkdir -p -- "/usr/local/lib/gaim" /bin/sh ../../../libtool --silent --mode=install /usr/bin/install -c 'liboscar.la' '/usr/local/lib/gaim/liboscar.la' make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/evan/gaim-1.5.0/src/protocols/oscar' ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2005-10-24 07:57 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 run configure as normal, for the entire gaim. then cd in to src/protocols/oscar and run make and make install there. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=200235&aid=1336147&group_id=235 ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the JBoss Inc.
