What's the secret in any version of Fedora (e.g. 22) or openSUSE (e.g. Tumbleweed) or *buntu (e.g. 14.10 or 15.04) to getting any "Oxygen" (proportional regular sans, not mono, not bold) font to show up anyplace except a KDE font configuration or installation panel or KDE's UI? I tried in several versions of these three distros on multiple machines, and always nothing from fc-match or anything else (helpful from) fontconfig. Trying to get a locally installed (non-bold, non-mono sans, by whatever name; either via package manager or placing the ttf files in /usr/local/share/fonts/) Oxygen ttf font to show up on a web page styled to use Oxygen (sans) never makes it happen, always falling back to some other font family. e.g. Fedora 22: # grep RETTY /etc/os-release PRETTY_NAME="Fedora 22 (Twenty Two)" # rpm -qa | grep xyge | grep ont | sort oxygen-fonts-5.3.2-1.fc22.i686 oxygen-fonts-common-5.3.2-1.fc22.noarch oxygen-mono-fonts-5.3.2-1.fc22.noarch oxygen-sans-fonts-5.3.2-1.fc22.noarch # fc-list | grep xyg /usr/share/fonts/oxygen/Oxygen-Sans-Bold.ttf: Oxygen\-Sans:style=Sans-Bold /usr/share/fonts/oxygen/Oxygen-Sans.ttf: Oxygen\-Sans:style=Sans-Book /usr/share/fonts/oxygen/OxygenMono-Regular.ttf: Oxygen Mono:style=Regular # fc-cat oxygen /root/oxygen: No such file or directory # fc-list oxygen # fc-match oxygen DroidSans.ttf: "Droid Sans" "Regular" # fc-pattern oxygen Pattern has 1 elts (size 16) family: "oxygen"(s) # fc-query oxygen Can't query face 0 of font file oxygen # fc-scan oxygen # fc-match -a oxygen | sort | grep xy OxygenMono-Regular.ttf: "Oxygen Mono" "Regular" Oxygen-Sans-Bold.ttf: "Oxygen-Sans" "Sans-Bold" Oxygen-Sans.ttf: "Oxygen-Sans" "Sans-Book" # fc-match "Oxygen Mono" OxygenMono-Regular.ttf: "Oxygen Mono" "Regular" # fc-match Oxygen DejaVuSans.ttf: "DejaVu Sans" "Book" # fc-match Oxygen-Sans DejaVuSans.ttf: "DejaVu Sans" "Book" # fc-match "Oxygen Sans" DejaVuSans.ttf: "DejaVu Sans" "Book" # fc-match "Oxygen Regular" DejaVuSans.ttf: "DejaVu Sans" "Book" # fc-match "Oxygen Sans Regular" DejaVuSans.ttf: "DejaVu Sans" "Book" :-( -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
