/etc/fonts/fonts.conf (e.g. in openSUSE Factory) suggests ~/.fonts is
deprecated with:
<!-- Font directory list -->
...
"<!-- the following element will be removed in the future -->
<dir>~/.fonts</dir>
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Is there already a replacement for those wanting per user fonts installed and
available regardless of the DE logged in under? If not, will there be before
removal occurs? I don't see anything about it on
http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/fontconfig/ToDo/ or
http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/fontconfig/.
http://www.freedesktop.org/software/fontconfig/fontconfig-user.html has no
occurrences of ~/.fonts except as a substring.
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/fontconfig/2012-August/004270.html
thread discusses relocation of ~/.fonts.conf and ~/.fonts.conf.d/ to
~/.config/fontconfig, but not ~/.fonts, and Googling for ~/.fonts to try and
find an answer produces an overwhelming number of hits exclusively about the
two longer strings.
Having personal font files in ~/.fonts is easy. Why should support for it be
removed? Will the rule that includes it simply be moved elsewhere?
