What was the rationale behind putting fontconfig cache into temporary
directory?
On *nix it resides in /var/cache/fontconfig.
Unlike /var/cache/, Windows tempdir:
1) May be user-specific. So you'll have 1 fontcache per each user.
2) Is exposed to various cleaning utilities, which may not know how to
clean up fontconfig cache, and whether to clean it up at all. IMU, fc
cache is not something that really needs cleaning (you need it as long
as you have FC-dependent applications installed). Cache can be
re-generated, but that takes time and I/O. I'm not sure how
cache-rebuild is triggered - normally a fontconfig package has a list
of directories changes to which will trigger a cache rebuild. W32 has
no decent package manager, and i don't think that applications keep
track of fonts. Which means that it's important to not to lose fontcache.
