Akira, I finally managed to finish the threadsafety work in Pango. With that, and fontconfig master, I managed to render thousands of images of text from thousands of threads without any crash so far. As such, GNOME people are really interested in getting this in a release. Do you think you can make a release next week? It doesn't have to be marked a stable release. Just a release such that Pango can require it, and packages can package it.
