On what platform? Presumably not any normal Linux desktop at least,
because if no fonts would be found by gtk-demo, surely your Linux
desktop would not really work very well otherwise either?

So is this Windows? In that case, fontconfig is not involved by gtk,
and the error message is misleading.

Or what?
