To give you a start on using automake with fontconfig, attached to this message is a gzipped tar archive containing Makefile.am files and other files that needed changing for fontconfig to be able to use automake. I have not sent patches because half the files are completely new. The modified configure.in now also uses libtool. Since I am not a libtool expert, I couldn't make it reproduce the 'libfontconfig.so.1.0' numbering of the current version without abusing the libtool numbering scheme, so I made the library version numbering more like that of GLib and Pango: i.e., 'libfontconfig-1.0.so.0.1.0'. The modifications were tested by running 'make dest' on the modified source, building and installing the generated distribution, and then compiling Pango using the installed library and header files.
