With the hint that it's a recent regression, biscetion didn't take too long, but took me back towards 2.1.3. Reverting 334185e (server: ensure that fio_time_init() is called before option parsing, 2013-11-01), on top of 2.1.9, fixes the problem. Not clear to me what's going on, though.
