Of course things may have regressed, or there could be something specific about your system causing the failure. I'm only finding one 6600 related bug against xorg-x11-drv-nouveau in bugzilla, and it appears unrelated to your issue. Unless someone else has experiences to share, can you follow the debug guide [2] and log this into bugzilla?
