I think I can guess what laptop you have. :)

If it's a Vaio Z, then yes, there's trouble with the odd hybrid graphics
it has. To get it working, you need to do a BIOS hack:

then set the new BIOS setting that appears for the video card to
'static' or something (I forget the exact setting, but what it does is
let you 'lock in' one graphics card or the other, instead of both being
available to the OS, as is the case by default no matter which switch
position you set).

then set the mode switch to 'speed'. Boot with the vesa driver or to
text mode or something (or you can use the proprietary driver, it
works), and install a kernel of version 2.6.35.1-5.rc1 or later. Then
try the nouveau driver, and it should work. Intel is still broken.
