  Live 386 booted and ran.

386 install DVD took several minutes to get to loading Anaconda,
went to black screen with no sync, then locked up.

386 install with safe graphics succeeded.

At this point I removed the HD5670 and went back to an Nvidia 9600GT.
A new Nvidia driver cured the display problem I had with Windows 7.
Returning to Nvidia broke Ubuntu, so now I am reloading Ubuntu.
Nice to be able to do VNC sessions and web browsing during installs!

I will reload F14 Alpha with the Nvidia 9600GT when I get a chance.
