So you say that once the above steps are complete (eg sign, pick a
mentor, and apply for the group), your application for approval will be
reviewed, and once approved you will be able to "apply for, and be
approved for,".  Yet according to the steps, one should already have
applied for the proven testers group.

The first sentence of Proven Testers Mentor Candidates is quite
difficult to follow.  I think there is a missing punctuation making this
two sentences.

Also, I'd make the sentence read "If a candidate has a preference as to
whom mentors them, they must request ...."  The way it reads now it
almost seems like you always have to request a specific one, as the "if
you have a preference" is a secondary thought.
