As I said, I was literally unable to get sendmail working despite spending an entire weekend on it, and in general I'm pretty good at bluffing my way through stuff based on Google results (you could call it my specialist subject :>). postfix only took me several hours to get going, and I at least vaguely understand what the hell was going on.
