I started poking around and found that the ifcfg-eth0 script
had been modified by someone sometime after I added PEERDNS=no
(and I did NOT run s-c-network).

I've now got:

PEERDNS=no
USERCTL=no
NM_CONTROLLED=no

and I removed DNS1. I'll see if that does it the next time I boot
into my f12 partition.

If it still screws it up, I'll have no choice but to
get out the chattr big hammer :-).
